Obedience brings life

Jeremiah 38:20 “…Obey I beseech thee, the voice of the Lord, which I speak unto thee; so it shall be well unto thee and thy soul shall live.”

Can’t you just hear the groaning in Jeremiah as he tries to compel a stiff-necked people into obedience? The Lord is always in a blessing mood. His problem is that He has to wait on us to get in the mood as well! Jeremiah, known as the weeping prophet, was “in tune” to the heart of his God. He could feel the Lord’s pain and knew quite well His tears for His people. How it ached God’s heart to withhold any good thing from His people. When the word says “God will withhold no good thing from you…” it is speaking of one who is walking in obedience. It still brings an ache to God’s heart when His people refuse to walk in obedience. James said that if we “Know to do something and do it not, it is sin to us.” What is that thing that the Lord has been calling you to do? Maybe it is horrifying to you. Maybe it is dumb to you, just plain stupid. Maybe it’s not your business to worry about what it is and just get it done! Even if there is no apparent result, you know this one thing: You were obedient.

We have to get real about this stuff and stop finding excuses to hold on to the pain and fear that creates such disobedience in us.

Without obedience we can have no faith and Hebrews says that without faith, it is IMPOSSIBLE to please God. Get away from me, you might be contagious!

Romans 1:18 “The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness.”

Do you know what to do and just can’t seem to do it? ——- If that’s you, then you are “holding the truth in unrighteousness and you bring the wrath of God upon yourself!” Stop doing that. Simply obey and you will see how simple it is, how effortlessly the Lord rushes in to help you. Let Him.

The devil’s job is to tell you that it will cost too much and you can never do it. He’s a liar and a thief. Stop letting him lie to you and steal from you. The Word says that He will never put on you more than you can bear. Trust Him to know that verse! Trust Jesus to be your friend!

The Lord is aching and longing to give you all the blessings and rewards that come with obedience. Let Him renew all those promises He once spoke to your heart, it’s not to late —– it never is!
