Russ was in Huston, Texas on a business trip when he received an emergency call from his brother. There was a terrible auto accident back home and Russ’s wife, Mary, and two daughters were taken to the local hospital.
Upon arrival, Russ received the horrible news that his two daughters had died at the accident scene and his wife was in intensive care. Several days passed as Russ tried to deal with the loss of his two beautiful daughters. The possibility of losing his wife was more than he could take. How could this be happening? It was only four days ago he kissed his family goodbye and now he may lose them all.
Mary fought a very difficult battle to stay alive but her injuries were more than she or the doctors could deal with. Yes, Mary passed away a week after the car accident and thus joined her daughters in death. As you can imagine, Russ was in shock and could not function. He walked around most of the day in a daze for he could not eat, sleep, or work.
Russ’ family was taken from him and he was left with pain, sorrow and tears. Death is a word we don’t like to talk about. The very word implies finality to ones existence here on earth. Loved ones are left trying to deal with the loss and the memories of those who passed on. It is not an easy situation to understand or deal with.
Revelation 21:4 “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. ”
There is hope for Russ and the rest of us according to the Bible. However, John, the writer of The Revelation, is not talking of this life as we know it but the life to come. . .life in heaven with our creator.
Don’t you think everyone would be interested in spending eternity in heaven with the God of the universe and spend it without death, sorrow, pain, and tears? This is what God promises to us His children. But how do we become His children? The Bible is clear on this subject, however many don’t take the time to discover the one condition to heaven’s entrance. Most of us spend more time on planning a two week vacation than on finding what the Bible has to say about our eternal security.
Paul is writing in Romans 10: 9-10 and says “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
Paul also states in Romans 6: 23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Jesus is speaking in John 10:28 “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.”
The way to eternity with God is clear but are we willing to accept God’s way? I know Russ is looking forward to seeing his family again where there is no more death, sorrow, pain, and crying…NEVER AGAIN!
