Psalms 23 “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil. For You are with me, Your rod and Your staff they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil. My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
If, If, If, the Lord is my shepherd, then all this is true. He will comfort me. I won’t have need. I will hear Him tell me to lie down and take comfort in Him. I will let Him lead me and restore me. I will behave righteously. I will honor Him. And, when I’m walking through the valley of the shadow of death, I’ll understand and remember that to make a shadow it takes LIGHT! Jesus is that light. In your valley, it is He who casts that shadow, right there, over to the right. It’s Him. Walking with you.
If, If, If, the Lord is my shepherd then I will be comforted by His correction — take it and run with it — I won’t be hateful or confused because of it. I will love it and the messengers who bring it. I will see the table that He has set before me, right in the midst of my enemies, right in their camp in complete safety. In the middle of my trouble I will hear Him say, “Come and dine, the trouble will wait!” I will rejoice in the Lord as He anoints me head with oil in front of the enemy! My cup will overflow with the goodness (glory) of who He is. I will walk as the anointed of the Lord. I will be merciful and behave myself according to the fruit of the Spirit. (Galatians 5:22-23)
“… Love, Joy, Peace, Longsuffering, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, Self-Control……” Yeah, that stuff is fruit – you have to eat it and choose to behave like you’ve got it in you!
THEN, mercy and goodness will follow me as I put it out to others. THEN, I will dwell in the house or the presence of the Lord forever. Forever is such a huge word and when God says it, He REALLY means it! Count on it! Is He your Shepherd?
